The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
