Much like Storm Claudia swept through the north-west the night before, City swept Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a statement three goal triumph for their manager's side owing to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their championship potential as they strengthened their place at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Losses for United

This result represented back-to-back league setbacks for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a significant margin off the top team with their championship aspirations severely dented.

The Red Devils' ability to manage league and European soccer with a limited roster has been a widely debated issue since they qualified for the Champions League. Reviewing the schedule, it always appeared this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Unfortunately for the opposition, they looked fatigued from start to finish, the historic win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

Lineup Adjustments

The United manager had attempted to make changes with a a few adjustments. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all provided energy, although the exclusion of the high-performing Melvine Malard to the bench caused surprise.

City, in contrast, have no similar fitness issues. Jeglertz made one change from their most recent win over the Toffees with Lauren Hemp making her return to the lineup since recovering from a fitness issue.

Commanding Opening Period

The trouble started to accumulate for the United boss and his team from the opening minute. This was a show of the power from Manchester City whose potent offense played with and pulled the visitors apart with a sublime opening period display that saw them score three goals in under half an hour.

Scoring Spree

Ex- City player Jess Park came closest, hitting the post, but the away team were creatively abject and did not manage to register a one shot on target.

The hosts, on the other hand, could have increased their cushion when a superb Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it was insignificant to the winning team. Previously unable to overcome any side who finished above them the previous campaign, the manager's side now have wins against Arsenal and Manchester United to place them in a favorable standing after nine games.
