Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface from spring of 2023.
The win also indicates he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
