Emma Raducanu wraps up her season and plans to retain her coach for 2026.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four Grand Slams during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her remaining competitions this season because of a health issue she has been fighting over the past 10 days.
At 22 years old had planned to participate in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to regain her health prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Her upcoming training will include her coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have agreed to work together again next season.
She had her blood pressure taken in her opening round against Ann Li in Wuhan and stopped playing when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She needed once more medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the first round.
Raducanu was also moving noticeably restricted in the final set against Zhu because of the lower back problem that has troubled her on several occasions in 2025.
Those results meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the international top 30 for the first time in more than three years, concluded with three straight losses.
Raducanu had three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in Beijing last month.
She secured 28 victories during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain advanced to the quarters of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament then falling in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
Her coach was Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was until the end of the season but the partnership will continue, with a training block pencilled in in the coming months.
Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she reached the third round before being beaten by Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
