The January transfer market is typically a period of intense rumour and possible major deals. A number of high-profile stars are being linked with transfers out of their current teams. Here is a look at a selection of the major names that could be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, this has kept the player available, it appears a significant transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a deal featuring a £65 million release clause active for a brief window in early January. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other options, leaving teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Anfield collapsing. As his deal set to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's last opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, including Manchester City and several continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. However, a winter exit is considered difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales winger has had starting opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Although being the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has started only a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London club is open to a transfer for the right price, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Spurs value the Welsh international at around £40m.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had surgery, a January departure seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national squad. But, securing a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as admirers.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to victory in the Saudi Super Cup final.

C. Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder attracted considerable attention in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having few starting appearances in La Liga this term, he is eager to secure more minutes ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United are strongly linked, and a return to Crystal Palace, where he excelled on a temporary deal, is also a possibility, though wage constraints could prove a problem.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and winning player of the tournament at the U21 Euros last summer, this young player has struggled for game time on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a season, a return to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward has been in fine form for the Italian giants this term. As his current contract nearing its end, many Premier League clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to retain one of Europe's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is widely tipped to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
